Director of Instrumental Music
Candice Armstrong was born and raised in Southern California and is coming to Helix from the Inland Empire. Her love for music has been strong since she was very young. That passion took her to the University of Redlands to pursue a degree in Music Education and her teaching credential at the same time. She believes that bringing music into the world and training the next generation to do so is her calling. It is her goal to use her current knowledge/skill set and her continuing drive and commitment to help educate the Instrumental Music Program students at Helix Charter High School.
While at the University of Redlands, she studied flute performance under the world renowned Sara Andon and conducting under acclaimed musicians Dr. Eddie Smith (instrumental conducting) and Dr. Nicholle Andrews (choral conducting).
As a freelance musician, she performed with pit orchestras for several ballets, musicals, and operas amongst other performance gigging opportunities.
She was a featured speaker at the Keli’ikoa leadership conference, and has received the NAMM Foundation Best Communities of Music Education Award
Candice is a member of several music education organizations, including Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, Western Band Association, and California Band Directors Association. She has also been involved in the National Honor Society, a national organization recognizing and supporting high school academia. She actively attends conferences through SCSBOA, California Music Educators Conference, WBA, and the Advanced Placement Summer Institute.
