Saturday Practice with David Kuhns August 9th

We are bringing in guest speaker David Kuhns from the California leadership Academy to work with band and leadership!!! We are very excited to have him come out and work with our program. Here is a little info on David:

Dave Kuhns has been involved with music for as long as he can remember. He was student conductor of both his high school and college bands and choirs, and general all-around “chair setter-upper” and “stuff carrier” for all of the school related musical groups he belonged to. During his career as a secondary school educator in Southern California he was the director of many “championship-quality” bands, orchestras and choirs. He was an officer in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. He is an accomplished musician, playing professionally in Los Angeles, and is a widely respected adjudicator and guest conductor. Dave volunteers with the Fiesta Bowl Band committee, has served as an adjudicator for the Fiesta Bowl Band Championship since 1988 and has been serving as the head judge for the Fiesta Bowl Band Championship since 2002. He has been serving as a concert and marching adjudicator in Arizona since 1990 and during his tenure as the State Festival Coordinator for the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association was responsible for the training of band and orchestra adjudicators in the state. He currently serves as a head judge for both marching and concert events on the ABODA Festival Adjudication Committee. Since 1988, Dave has been working with Attitude Concepts for Today traveling nationwide speaking to audiences ranging from junior high school students to corporate managers. He specializes in motivation, leadership training and group dynamics. His client list includes some of the finest high school performing groups in America. He is co-founder and primary leadership trainer for the California Leadership Academy, which is recognized as the premier peer leadership education resource for high school performing ensembles in Southern California since its creation in 1988. In addition to his activities as a music education consultant, he currently teaches instrumental music in the Deer Valley Unified Schools, where he is Director of Bands at Deer Valley High School.He lives in Glendale with his wife, Sandy.​
